Apple Watch Series 7 Comes With A Mysterious 60.5GHz Wireless Data Transfer Module

In a recent report from MacRumors, they discovered an FCC filing for the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 that revealed that the wearable comes equipped with a new module that will enable 60.5GHz wireless data transfer. However, there is a good chance that this could only be meant for internal use only.

The filing indicates that this feature is activated when placed on a proprietary magnetic dock with its own 60.5GHz module. It has since been suggested that maybe it could be used by Apple Stores to help restore a watch wirelessly, but it has also since fueled some speculation about what it could mean for future Apple products.

For example, one of the rumors we’ve been hearing is how Apple might skip USB-C and just create a portless iPhone. It was then suggested that Apple was exploring ways to allow such an iPhone to wireless recover data, and so the idea of using a 60.5GHz module might not be that much of a stretch.

There have also been some comments that speculate that it could somehow be linked to Apple’s upcoming rumored AR/VR glasses, where it might facilitate some kind of connection between the headset and the watch. Either way, this is purely speculation so don’t get your hopes up just yet. For all we know, it could really be nothing more than just a way to allow the Apple Store to restore watches without the need for wires.
