It seems that we might still have to wait quite a bit because according to a new DigiTimes report, production of the rumored Apple Car is expected to kick off in 2024. What this means is that an announcement will either take place in 2023 or 2024 itself. It is unclear who will be manufacturing the car on Apple’s behalf, but Apple is said to be in talks with Toyota and LG.
Earlier this year, the rumors were abuzz when it was leaked that Apple and Hyundai were in talks where Kia, a sub-brand of Hyundai, was said to be in the running to manufacture the car. However, there were some concerns within Hyundai that they would essentially be manufacturing a potential competitor and didn’t want to end up being relegated as Apple’s manufacturing partner.
It was later revealed that the talks between the companies have ended, so like we said, it’s anyone’s guess as to who could end up making the car for Apple. What we do know is that Apple is exploring self-driving technology. The company does have several cars on the road which are used to test the technology, but whether or not it’s for use in their own car or to sell to other companies is unclear.
