Just recently, leakster Jon Prosser shared renders of what he claims is the iPhone 14 Pro Max. One of the notable changes is to the front-facing camera where it seems that Apple has done away with the notch in favor of a hole-punch cutout. Since we’re a year from the iPhone 14 launching, it’s hard to say how accurate those claims are.
However, analyst Ross Young of DSCC has corroborated Prosser’s claims. According to Young, Prosser’s renders and claims are in line with what he has heard and what he has shared back in June. He claims that for both the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models, Apple will adopt either an under-display system or a hole-punch system for Face ID and the front-facing camera.

He does note in his follow-up comments that it is still being worked on, but it might be something that Apple is working towards. He also says that an under-display Face ID system is easier to pull off compared to under-display cameras. This might explain the hole-punch cutout which will probably be used to house the front-facing camera, but the TrueDepth system used for Face ID could be hidden under the panel itself.
Once again though, these are some very bold claims this early into the game. We imagine that Apple will eventually ditch the notch, but when exactly remains to be seen, but for now the iPhone 14 seems to be the betting favorite.
