In a report from Motherboard, it appears that a hacker (or hackers) might have managed to make off with a massive database containing information on about 100 million people, or most of T-Mobile’s customers. In a post on the forum where the database is being offered for sale, it is said to contain things like social security numbers, phone numbers, names, physical addresses, and so on.
Motherboard claims to have viewed samples from the database and claims that it does look legit. T-Mobile hasn’t acknowledged the hack yet but they did put out a statement that says, “We are aware of claims made in an underground forum and have been actively investigating their validity. We do not have any additional information to share at this time.”
The hacker is also said to be asking for 6 bitcoin to sell the database, which based on the current value of the cryptocurrency is worth around $270,000.
