Apple’s iPhones have never been cheap, which is why many, many years ago back in 2011, there were rumors that Apple could be developing a handset called the iPhone nano. The device was rumored to be a smaller iPhone that would be more affordable compared to the iPhone 4, which was Apple’s flagship back then.
However, those rumors never came to pass, but as it turns out the rumors were actually true. As part of the Epic VS Apple lawsuit, The Verge spotted some emails, one of which was from Apple’s late co-founder, Steve Jobs, where the iPhone nano was mentioned in name. There were also references to a plan to create a low-cost iPhone model based on the iPod touch, but The Verge points out that it is unclear if this is related to the iPhone nano or a different phone.
That being said, the bad news is that apart from the mentioning of the name, not much else is known about the device. However, like we said, it does confirm the rumors back then, so there is some vindication for those who were adamant about the device’s existence.
That being said, we guess the iPhone SE series could be Apple’s answer to the iPhone nano. They are smaller compared to the flagship iPhones, and they are cheaper as well, so maybe it took Apple a little longer to get it to the market.
