The video claims that Sony held a private conference for developers the other day where they detailed a new VR headset that they were working on. The folks at UploadVR have since verified that the event did take place, which while it doesn’t necessarily confirm anything, at the very least corroborates the claims.
According to Sony, the upcoming VR headset is expected to come with a new resolution of 4000×2040, meaning that each eye will get 2000×2040. There will also be eye-tracking, foveated rendering, sport an HDR OLED display, along with a field-of-view of 110 degrees, making it 10 degrees wider than the PSVR.
Sony is also apparently looking to create more compelling games for its new VR headset and have told developers that they are looking for AAA titles for it. They also seem to be asking developers to create hybrid games which can be played on a normal TV, but at the same time feature VR support for those who wish to enjoy it in VR as well.
That being said, apparently this VR headset won’t be making its debut this year. The report claims that launch details are only expected in early 2022, but even then it’s not a guarantee that we will see it in 2022 either.
