iPhone 13 Could Support Portrait Mode For Video

One of the camera features we’re seeing in a lot of smartphones these days is portrait mode, where it basically tries to emulate the effects of bokeh that you would normally get from a traditional camera. However, for the most part, this is limited to photos, not videos, but that could change in the iPhone 13.

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, he claims that one of the features of the iPhone 13 is that Apple could finally bring Portrait Mode to videos. This might be useful for videographers who are trying to achieve the look of an out-of-focus background but in video. We imagine that the reason for not including Portrait Mode for videos is because of the continuous need to try and track the subject while maintaining a blurred background.

This might be achieved with an updated LiDAR scanner that could use new algorithms to help with tracking. Gurman’s report also claims that another feature of the iPhone 13’s cameras is ProRes. This is a format developed by Apple over a decade ago and is used in software like Final Cut Pro.

It is possible that bringing ProRes to the iPhone could indicate Apple’s plans to make iPhone footage work better with their own software, and maybe encourage professionals to use the iPhone to capture video.
