Usually when you choose a car, there are things you need to take into consideration. For example, if you have a family of four, buying a two-seater coupe doesn’t really make sense, does it? However, Audi has envisioned a concept car that they’re calling the Skysphere which, at a touch of a button, can transform and change its shape.
No, we’re not necessarily talking about a car that can transform from a two-seater into a magical four-seater, but rather it’s a car that can transform itself to give the driver a different experience. According to Audi, the Skysphere has two modes – Sports and Grand Touring. Sports mode is what you might expect from a roadster-like design, but hitting the Grand Touring mode will let the car extend by 25 centimeters and hides both the steering wheel and pedals.
According to Audi, “In this mode, the steering wheel and pedals move into an invisible area; the feeling of space in the concept car opens up completely new realms of possibility for such a sporty convertible. Meanwhile, the Audi skysphere automatically keeps an eye on the road and traffic with its sensor system and drives the occupants safely to their destination.”
That being said, before you get too excited do note that this is a concept. Audi has no plans (at least right now) to actually make it a production vehicle, but once self-driving technology has become more widely-accepted, perhaps these are the types of cars we expect to see in the future.
