How they pulled it off was the leader of the group bought an Apple Watch and linked it to his AT&T account. The crew then hid the smartwatch underneath the bumper of a car that belonged to a drug runner who they suspected was carrying large amounts of cash. They then tracked the location of the drug runner using the Apple Watch to a hotel parking lot in Connecticut.
They initially did not find anything, but some of the thieves staked the location out overnight where upon seeing the driver return to the vehicle, they grabbed him and forced him into the vehicle where a scuffle broke out. They stole the man’s belongings which included a hotel key card, and in the hotel they discovered a bag stuffed with $500,000 in cash.
It is unclear how they were eventually caught, but this was not their first job. The crew is said to have been behind a string of alleged robberies from 2019 to 2020.
