So, what now? The good news is that Western Digital has since announced that those who were affected and had their data wiped as a result will be offered data recovery services. Those who wish to upgrade or change to a different device will also be offered trade-in options that they can explore as well.
According to the company, “To help customers who have lost data as a result of these attacks, Western Digital will provide data recovery services, which will be available beginning in July. My Book Live customers will also be offered a trade-in program to upgrade to a supported My Cloud device.”
The company still maintains that the best course of action is to keep your devices unplugged from the internet so that the hackers cannot access it remotely. We’re not sure if the company plans to eventually release a patch to fix this problem, but for now if you own a My Book Live device, it might be time to consider upgrading it to something else.
