Sony later reversed their decision following the outcry from gamers, although they did mention a caveat that read, “PSP commerce functionality will retire on July 2nd, 2021 as planned.” This led to speculation that Sony could pull the plug on all PSP downloads, but a report from Kotaku is now claiming otherwise.
The publication has spotted wording on Sony’s PlayStation UK’s website where it states that PSP games will continue to be sold through the PS3 and PS Vita console’s stores, which is good news for gamers. That being said, given how old these consoles are, obviously there aren’t going to be any major games for them anymore, but for those who still want the option of purchasing games, it’s here to stay, at least for now.
Back in April when Sony reversed their decision, Sony’s CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan said that they made the “wrong decision”. “Upon further reflection, however, it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here.”
