According to a recent report, HMD Global is preparing a new Nokia phone in the form of the Nokia X60 that will apparently run on HarmonyOS. If this report is true, it would make it the first non-Huawei smartphone to use the platform, and it could help give Huawei a bit more reach which could also encourage more people to adopt its new platform.
It’s actually surprising that HMD Global is considering HarmonyOS, especially given that it is still a relatively unproven platform, but maybe they could be compensating for being late to the party by taking a chance with a new system. Huawei does have the reach and fans to potentially create a new operating system to rival iOS and Android, but only time will tell if they’re going to be successful with it.
It will also be interesting to see if the Nokia X60 will make its way stateside. With US and China relations kind of at a low point, we’re not sure if the US government will be too thrilled with phones running HarmonyOS.
