Now thanks to the efforts of researchers from IBM and the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF), they believe that they have developed an AI that can predict how Parkinson’s will progress in individuals. This means that in the future, doctors can use this AI to better understand how the disease will progress in their patients, which in turn would allow them to better manage their patient’s symptoms.
According to IBM, “Our aim is to use AI to help with patient management and clinical trial design. These goals are important because, despite Parkinson’s prevalence, patients experience a unique variety of motor and non-motor symptoms.” The AI was fed data from 1,400 individuals, which according to IBM is the “largest and most robust volume of longitudinal Parkinson’s patient data to date”.
At the moment there is currently no known cure for Parkinson’s, but we suppose being able to predict how it will progress will allow doctors to stay ahead of the disease and to prepare patients for what’s to come.
