According to this filing, it seems that Verizon is developing its own Alexa-powered smart display. The device has the model name LVD1 and features an 8-inch 1280×800 display, 4GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. It will support Bluetooth and WiFi, but since this is going to be made by Verizon, it doesn’t really come as a surprise that it would support 4G connectivity as well.
This is actually perfect if your home’s internet is a bit slow or down and you need an alternative way of connecting. Verizon has declined to comment on the existence of the device, but if the FCC filing is accurate, it shouldn’t be too long before it is launched. Exactly how much it will cost and what other features it might have also remains to be seen.
That being said, smart displays aren’t new. We’ve seen some powered by Google Assistant and some powered by Alexa, like Amazon’s Echo Show series, so there’s really nothing new here and hopefully Verizon will price it affordably.
