As we get older, our eyesight tends to degrade depending on how well you take care of them. This is why usually we need to constantly upgrade and change the lenses we use for prescription glasses. However, a Finnish startup by the name of Pixieray thinks that they might have the solution to that problem in the form of a pair of autofocusing glasses.
This means that similar to a camera lens system, these glasses will be able to automatically bring into focus things that you are looking at. For example, if you are wearing a pair of outdated prescription glasses from 5 years ago, it doesn’t matter what you’re looking at, it will never be as sharp compared to glasses that have been updated based on your current eyesight.
However, that won’t matter for Pixieray’s glasses as it will be able to constantly adjust the focal point and apply the necessary corrections to help you see objects in focus. The idea is that this will help reduce eye strain and also aid overall comfortability. Pixieray’s plans have attracted some attention from the likes of Amazon’s Alexa Fund and other VCs.
Pixieray is still playing its cards close to its chest in terms of the tech it uses, but the company is hoping to start shipping out their product in 2023, so we still have quite a bit of a wait before we actually get to see it in action.
