A couple of years ago, Lenovo took the wraps off a smart clock. Basically, instead of a regular clock, this one was smarter and came with a display and speakers so that in addition to being able to act as an alarm, it could also double as a smart speaker or sorts where you could control it using Google Assistant.
It was a decent way for people to get into the smart home system, and now it seems that the company could be planning a new model. According to Droid-Life, they have spotted FCC filings that seem to suggest that Lenovo could be building a second-gen smart clock, except that this one could have a wireless charging dock that would let you charge a smartphone.
However, before you get too excited, based on the filing it seems that this wireless dock would be sold as a separate and optional accessory. If you were to buy it, it would attach to the smart clock and give it wireless charging capabilities, although it seems that it will be capped at 5W which is kind of slow, but we suppose if you were to leave it overnight it should be fine.
There is no word on when Lenovo is expected to debut their new smart clock, but if you liked the original and wouldn’t mind a newer model, then check back with us later for more details.
