The company had previously started to test out ads in Reels earlier in the year, but now it looks like it has started to roll out to everyone else. The format of the ads in Reels will be similar to those you see in Instagram Stories and feed, so if you’re used to seeing those then this won’t be any different.
The upside is that ads on Instagram can be easily skipped. This is versus ads on Facebook or YouTube where you’re forced to watch the entirety of it or for a few seconds before you’re allowed to skip the rest, so at least it won’t be too annoying.
For those unfamiliar, Reels is Instagram’s answer to TikTok. So far it seems to be gaining in popularity, although we’re not sure if it might have caught up to TikTok yet or if they’re close. Instagram does have the advantage of already being a familiar platform for users and where there are already many established users.
