This new feature is called Reading Sidekick where through an Echo Kids device, it will actively listen to your kids when they are reading out loud. Then together with your kids, Alexa and they will take turns reading through supported books. This means that if this was an activity that you used to do with your kids but you don’t have the time, don’t worry because Alexa will take your place.
However, it should be noted that in order to take advantage of this feature, users will need to have a subscription to Kids+ and an Echo Kids device. At the moment there are over 700 titles supported by this feature, which is admittedly not a lot when you consider how many children’s books are out there, but we suppose it’s still something.
Ideally parents and teachers should be the ones helping kids read through their books, but if your kid wants to forge ahead on their own, this could be a useful tool for those times when you aren’t available.
