This little nugget of information was revealed during the publication’s review of the computer. However, it is unclear if Ive’s involvement was after he left the company and Apple had hired him through his new company, or if his involvement was before he left. As the publication suggests, hardware design can take a while so it is possible that he was working on it ahead of his departure.
This is actually believable because back in 2017 during an interview, Ive revealed that it took Apple about five years to develop the iPhone X. This meant that the phone was in development since at least 2012, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the 24-inch iMac’s design kicked off a few years ago while Ive was still employed at Apple.
The 24-inch iMac is the first major redesign of the desktop computer in many years and it is expected to be the start of many changes to come. Apple is also said to be working on a redesigned Mac mini and MacBook Pro, so don’t be surprised if Ive also had a hand in those changes as well.
