The last time we saw Apple refresh the iPod Touch lineup, it was back in 2019. We’re sure many are wondering about the fate of the iPod Touch and whether or not it is still alive and well, and it turns out that yes, it is. According to Steve Moser on Twitter, Apple could in fact be preparing a new model for later this year.
The tweet from Moser claims that Apple will be launching a new iPod Touch this fall, and based on the renders that he shared, it seems that the new iPod Touch could borrow from the design of the iPhone 12. This means that we can expect flat edges around the case of the device instead of curved like in previous models.
In November 2020, Apple added ‘iPod touch’ to their Apple Music PR blurb. Well now we know why. This Fall Apple is planning to release the next version of the iPod touch. Thanks to @AppleLe257 for sourcing info & @Apple_Tomorrow for the renders! pic.twitter.com/ImQQj3hxDc

This really shouldn’t be too surprising given that Apple is adopting the flat edged design for its products. In fact, recently leaked renders have shown that this will also be the design that Apple could be going for for the Apple Watch Series 7. That being said, not much is known about the specs and features of the new iPod Touch, so we’ll have to wait and see.
It’s interesting that Apple is still keeping its iPod lineup alive given that the iPhone can pretty much do everything the iPod Touch does. However, it is a good alternative for those who want to conserve their iPhone’s battery life or if they have a different phone that they use as their primary device but still want the iOS experience.
