Lightsabers have to be one of the coolest weapons we’ve seen in fiction, and throughout the years, we’ve seen many people attempt to make it. However, the problem with the lightsaber concept is that creators need to choose between either making it an actual functional weapon, or a weapon that in terms of effects, closely mimics that of the lightsaber we’ve seen in Star Wars movies.
Now, back in April, Disney held a press event for its upcoming Avengers Campus. While the event was not streamed and no photos were taken, it was reported that Josh D’Amaro, the chairman of Disney parks showed off a new lightsaber that could actually light up and extend and retract back like the lightsabers in the movies.
For those wondering what it looks like, Disney has since shared a teaser video for its Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser immersive hotel and in the video, it shows what appears to be the lightsaber in question. According to Disney, the new sabers are said to still be in development, but presumably they should be available for purchase once the hotel is launched in 2022.
Unfortunately, there’s no word on pricing just yet, but given that Disney already sells the “regular” lightsabers for $200, we imagine that this should cost somewhere around that range, if not more for the extra cool effect.
