While the job listing doesn’t specifically mention cryptocurrency, it does mention what Apple calls “alternative payments”. The job description reads, “The Apple Wallets, Payments, and Commerce (WPC) team is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to lead Alternative Payments Partnerships. We are looking for a proven professional in global alternative and emerging payment solutions.”
It also calls on the applicant to have, “5+ years experience working in or with alternative payment providers, such as digital wallets, BNPL, Fast Payments, cryptocurrency and etc.,” as well as having “deep knowledge” of alternative payments, understanding the complexities of fund flows, and so on.
That being said, it is interesting if this could be headed down the cryptocurrency path. This is because Apple’s CEO Tim Cook had stated back in 2019 that he was not a fan of the technology. He was quoted as saying, “I deeply believe that money must remain in the hands of states. I am not comfortable with the idea that a private group creates a competing currency.”
It is entirely possible he could have had a change of heart since then, but who knows?
