During Apple’s Spring Loaded event back in April, the company took the wraps off a new podcasts subscription program. Unlike Apple Music or the Apple One subscription service, these podcast subscriptions are up to the discretion of creators, meaning that Apple is simply giving them the tools to help them monetize their content if they choose.
Now it looks like Apple will be expanding on that by announcing an affiliate program for podcast subscriptions. For those unfamiliar, affiliate programs aren’t new. Companies like Amazon have them where if you click an affiliate Amazon link and you purchase the item, the person whose link you clicked will get a small commission, and this is more or less the premise here.
In this case, Apple will be giving users a 50% commission if the person they referred converts to a paid subscriber. So for example if a podcast creator is charging $10 a month to subscribe, and someone clicks your affiliate link and they subscribe, you’ll be getting $5. Apple is actually encouraging creators and publishers to use these links because it will be additional revenue on top of the subscription that they get.
The affiliate program will be available to anyone in the 170 countries where Apple will eventually launch podcasts subscription, so head on over to Apple’s website if you’d like to find out how to become a member.
