That being said, Tile is most definitely not taking this lying down, so much so that they have teamed up with Amazon in hopes that they’ll be able to beef up their own network of connected devices. This partnership also includes Level, a company known for their smart locks. This will all play into Amazon’s own network of connected devices called Sidewalk.
According to Amazon product boss Dave Limp, “Wi-Fi is constrained, mostly to your home, it just doesn’t have the range to go into your backyard into the neighborhood. Cellular may be the future, but it’s very expensive today. So Sidewalk kind of splits the difference between those two and allows us to put millions and billions of things on the edge of the network but do it in a secure way.”
So in a way, it is kind of similar to Apple’s Find My network which leverages the millions upon millions of Apple devices like iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers it has throughout the world. We’re not sure if any particular network is “better” than the other, but if you’re someone who’s bought into the Apple ecosystem, the AirTag could be more suited for you, but at the end of the day it’s your preference.
