In fact, a report from The Information (paywall) has revealed that Amazon could be considering acquiring MGM. If you’ve ever seen a movie, there’s a good chance you have seen MGM’s logo in it. The company is behind massive film franchises like James Bond, and it also owns the Epix cable channel which plays home to popular shows such as “The Handmaid’s Tale”, “Fargo”, and “Shark Tank”.
The deal, if successful, is said to be worth anywhere between $7 to $10 billion, which given Amazon’s resources isn’t a lot, but it is still a fair chunk of change. This isn’t the first time such a rumor has popped up. In the past, there have been whispers that Amazon was looking for a big entertainment property to buy to help bolster their streaming efforts.
The company is working on its own shows and one of those upcoming shows is Lord of the Rings, which last we heard was expected to cost as much as $1 billion, suggesting that Amazon most definitely has very high hopes for it.
