According to a report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he claims that Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to debut in 2023. The model in question is said to have an 8-inch display when unfolded with a QHD+ flexible OLED screen, with Samsung reportedly being the exclusive display supplier.
Kuo also goes on to claim that one of the technological features that Apple will be adopting will be a silver nanowire touch solution for the display. The analyst believes that this will help provide Apple with a “long-term competitive advantage”. As it stands, apparently the technology is already being used in the HomePod, so it seems that Apple is already getting some practice at using it.
As it stands, Apple’s lineup between their phones and tablets is very clear, so introducing a foldable iPhone will no doubt blur those lines. Whether or not this is a good thing remains to be seen as it could add some confusion. The upside is that with a tablet-like interface, perhaps we could finally see Apple add support for the Apple Pencil to the iPhone.
