According to a report from DigiTimes, it appears that one of Apple’s key suppliers, TSMT, have managed to address the technical challenges involved in creating mini LED displays for use in the rumored 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros that are expected to launch later this year. While we have heard rumors of mini LEDs coming to the MacBook lineup, this report suggests that whatever technical issues there was involving its production, it has been solved.
The report says, “Due to issues with PCBs and adhesive materials, TSMT’s yield rates for surface mounting for miniLED backlighting was not high enough originally, the sources noted. After changing PCB and adhesive material suppliers, TSMT has hiked yield rates to over 95% currently, the sources indicated.”
We’re not sure if or when Apple will eventually bring the technology over to larger devices like the iMac, but we have heard rumors that the MacBook Air could be given the same treatment albeit in 2022.
