When Sony and Naughty Dog first launched The Last of Us, it was back in 2013. The game was initially designed for the Sony PS3 console, although they later followed up with a remaster for the PS4. Now according to a report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, it seems that Sony is looking to remake the game for the PS5.
It’s not often that you see games remade/remastered this many times, but we can’t say we’re surprised. The Last of Us is not only a visually stunning game, but it has a very strong storyline that many seem to love. Creating a version that utilizes the hardware of the PS5 and bringing it to players who might not have played it before actually makes sense.
Sony has yet to confirm if the report is true, but unfortunately, the report does not state when the game will be released. What’s interesting is that this remake was supposed to be undertaken by Sony’s Visual Art Service Group, but was ultimately handed over to Naughty Dog, the game’s original developer.
While we look forward to seeing what this remake entails and how different it will be from the original, The Last of Us TV series is currently in development over at HBO where its lead actress and actor for the characters Ellie and Joel have already been cast.
