However, according to a report from SamMobile, that could change with the company’s upcoming foldables. Samsung is rumored to be planning a launch for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 2, and one of the changes they’ll be making is the introduction of an official IP rating.
At this point in time, it is unclear what kind of rating either phone will have. However, having an official rating is good because it means that these devices will be slightly more protected against water damage. Most smartphones these days have an IP67 rating at the very least, while newer ones like the Galaxy S21 Ultra has an IP68 rating, but we’re hoping for an IP67 at least.
While having an IP rating doesn’t magically protect your phone from water, it does mean that the manufacturer, Samsung in this case, is confident that they have put in enough protections that will make their devices resistant to water up to a certain degree. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but if the July launch rumors are true, we should have more details then.
