According to Reddit, “Currently, you can use text threads, images, videos, chats, and live streams to have conversations and hang out with people in your communities. While these are great mediums, there are other times where having a live audio talk may be more useful or, frankly, more fun. So we want to partner with you to explore a new way for community members to communicate with each other.”
The feature is currently in preview which means that it isn’t available to everyone just yet, so we have no idea how exactly it will function. However, based on what we can see from the screenshots and descriptions, it sounds pretty much like Clubhouse. As Reddit notes, users can already interact with each other through messages, but Reddit Talk gives them an alternative where they can use their voice.
We’re not sure when the feature is expected to be made available to everyone, but for now moderators of Reddit communities can sign up to be put on the waitlist so that the feature can be enabled for their community.
