Back in the day when being able to create a live stream on your mobile device was a new thing, Periscope was one of the more popular options out there, so much so that Twitter decided to spend $100 million to buy the company. However, all good things need to come to an end, and Periscope is one of them.

In a tweet by the company, they have announced that starting today, Periscope is no longer. The company’s website is still up and running where if you have broadcasted through the app before, you’ll be able to go to the website and download old content if you want to save it for memories.

It should be noted that Twitter actually announced back in December 2020 that they would be shutting down Periscope, so this shouldn’t really come as a complete surprise. It does mark the end of an era for the app that used to be pretty popular back in the day, but as Twitter has since created its own way of creating a live stream, we suppose Periscope is no longer needed.

Twitter is also not alone in this as there have since been other apps and platforms offering similar live streaming functionality. This includes the likes of Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and more. In the meantime, Twitter is also said to be working on a new feature called Spaces that is said to mimic the Clubhouse social media platform.
