Live-action movies involving massive robots battling against each other or monsters aren’t new, but to date we have yet to see that treatment given to popular anime series Gundam, at least until now. Netflix has announced that they will be developing a live-action movie set in the Gundam universe which will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts.

For those unfamiliar, Vogt-Roberts is the director behind Kong: Skull Island, so if you’ve enjoyed his work, then perhaps this could be a movie to look forward to. There have been rumors and talks about a possible live-action Gundam movie for years, and now it looks like it will finally be happening.

Unfortunately, apart from the announcement and confirmation that such a movie is in development, not much else is known about it. According to Netflix, the story is still under wraps so we don’t know what the plot will be and how faithful it might stay to the anime/manga. There is also no mention of casting yet so it is unclear who will be starring in the movie.

There is also, unfortunately, no mention of a release date so it’s hard to say when it will be released, but 2021 seems rather unlikely so we’ll most likely be seeing it in 2022 or later.
