The company says that they will be closing it mobile phone business worldwide and that any remaining inventory will continue to be made available for sale. The company also notes that they will continue to support existing products, so for now it seems that the company won’t be abandoning its customers just quite yet.
However, exactly how much support we are looking at remains to be seen. Will LG continue to push updates and new features, or is it more about just security updates and bug fixes? We suppose that’s something we’ll have to wait and see. It is kind of a pity that LG will be exiting the mobile phone market, but we can’t say we’re surprised.
The company has cranked out a few phones that have been noteworthy, but unfortunately the competition in the space is simply too stiff. Even LG’s competitor, Samsung, had to cede some market share over the years, so it’s not just LG who was affected. It will be sad to no longer see LG phones in the market, but we suppose that’s just the nature of things.
