Apple’s HomePod has seen mixed success. The original model was kind of a flop and was eventually discontinued, but the smaller model, the HomePod mini, seems to be faring much better. That being said, a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that there could be a new model in the works that honestly sounds very futuristic.
According to Gurman, he claims that his sources have told him that Apple is exploring the idea of a future HomePod that could come with a robotic arm. This arm would then be capable of holding devices like an iPad, and would also be able to move around. This means that it could follow you as you walk around a room, which could be useful for video calls especially if you don’t really like sitting in one place for too long.
Does this sound familiar? If it does, it is because Apple is not the first to have come up with such an idea. Amazon’s latest Echo Show smart display/smart speaker comes with a similarly rotating base that allows the display to swivel about to meet the user. However, we suppose the real question here is whether or not Apple will follow through with the idea.
Gurman’s report does state that the development on this idea is still in the early stages and exists more as a concept, meaning that it is something that might never see the light of day, so don’t get your hopes up just yet.
