There are many things that can affect the latency of our internet connection and the subsequent download speeds. It could be that there is a technical issue with the ISP, or maybe the server you’re connected to is having some difficulties, or there are too many people using the internet at the same time.
That being said, if you’re an Xbox gamer and would like to boost your download speeds, you might be interested to learn that Microsoft is testing out a new “suspend” game feature that could help. This is according to a tweet by Xbox engineering lead Eden Marie in which she revealed that the new feature is in testing.
Hey Xbox Insiders! Did you notice these changes rolling out now? Suspend in the queue will let you download at full speed while making sure your game remains resumable (or quick resume-able on Series X|S). So what this does is that it will suspend a game that you’re running at the moment and apparently it will help increase your download speeds. This is similar to other practices in the past, where if you’re downloading something and trying to stream a video, obviously the speed will be affected, so hitting pause on either activity should increase the speed of the other one.
It is unclear how much faster we’re talking about and if the differences will be big enough for gamers to pause their games to let a download complete, but we suppose at the very least the option is there for those who might want to take advantage of it.
