Nintendo Switch Upgrade Could Feature OLED Display, New NVIDIA Chipset

The Nintendo Switch has been around for a while now. While Nintendo did give the console a bit of an upgrade with a larger battery, for the most part the console remains unchanged. It still uses the same chipset it did back in the day, the same display, the same amount of RAM, and so on.

However, word on the street has it that Nintendo will be upgrading the console soon, and one of the changes we can expect is a new NVIDIA chipset and also an OLED display. This is according to a report from Bloomberg who claims that Nintendo could use a new chipset from NVIDIA that features Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS).

For those unfamiliar, DLSS was introduced in NVIDIA’s RTX 20-series GPU and is based on the Turing architecture. It relies on neural networks to help reconstruct the graphics in the game in real time at a higher quality, which means that it could in theory be more efficient as it could render lower resolution graphics at a higher output.

Given that Nintendo’s consoles don’t really focus that much on performance, having this type of technology could help them achieve better graphics. There is no word on when the new Nintendo Switch will launch, but word on the street is that it is apparently planned for this holiday season.
