Apple Could Disable Your Apple ID Over Missed Apple Card Payments

We’re sure that a lot of us have once or twice missed a credit card payment, whether it’s because we don’t have the money for it or if we forgot that it was due. Usually what happens is that banks will charge you an interest or impose a late fee penalty for that missed payment and that’s pretty much it.

However, in the case of the Apple Card, missing a payment could be almost disastrous. According to one Apple Card owner, Dustin Curtis, it seems that missing one payment of his Apple Card resulted in his Apple ID being disabled completely. This rendered various Apple services useless, such as iCloud Photo Library, syncing of contacts and emails, and he was also unable to update his apps.

According to Curtis, the reason for the missed payment was because his bank account number had been changed in the previous month. Apple tried to automatically deduct the payment from that account which caused the payment to fail, which they then took it to mean that it was a missed payment.

When he reached out to Apple, it seems that they too were a bit confused as to how this had happened. Thankfully, Curtis eventually managed to get everything restored after someone at Goldman Sachs, the bank behind Apple Card, sent an email to someone else in Apple to help resolve the situation. We’re not sure if this was an intended consequence of a failed Apple Card payment, but it might be something to consider if you own an Apple Card.
