According to a patent discovered by AppleInsider, it seems that Apple has come up with an idea that comes in the form of a pair of smart glasses that is capable of automatically adjusting and adapting to the wearer’s eyesight. According to the patent’s description, “[This system] may match the distance between the centers of the adjustable lenses to the measured interpupillary distance and may align the lens centers with the measured direction-of-view. The adjustable lenses may have transparent electrodes that are supplied with time-varying control signals by the control circuitry.”
This means that similar to a camera’s autofocus system, Apple’s smart glasses could continuously adjust itself to give the wearer the clearest vision possible. We’re not sure if this means that it has the ability to replace prescription lenses, but it definitely sounds very interesting.
Like we said earlier, creating multiple SKUs of a product can complicate things, plus as power changes over time, it means that users will need to seek out new lenses whenever their eyesight gets worse. However, a system that could continuously adapt does sound rather interesting, but whether or not Apple’s glasses will be this capable remains to be seen.
