As Apple’s M1 computers are still relatively new, it means that in terms of optimized apps, there aren’t that many available at the moment. This is critical because if Apple is hoping to convince more users, especially professionals, to switch over to their M1 platform, they will need to have those apps made available to them.
The good news is that if you’re a graphic designer or photographer who needs to edit images on their Mac computers, you’ll be pleased to learn that Adobe has announced the release of its M1 compatible version of Photoshop. According to Adobe, the M1 version will actually be 1.5x faster compared to previous versions of the software, so not only is this native, but it will actually be “better”.
That being said, the M1 version of Photoshop is far from perfect just yet. As Adobe notes on its support page, there are some differences between the M1 version and the regular version of Photoshop. For example, the native version of Photoshop will not be capable of importing, exporting, and playing back embedded video layers. There is no preset syncing, no shake reduction feature, and more.
However, Adobe is working to try and reduce those differences as much as possible. The company also points out that the M1 version does have some known bugs and issues, but those should be sorted out at a later date via future updates.
