This is something we’ve seen used in various Android phones to date, so Apple’s move isn’t really anything new. This is according to the ever-reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who claims that the hole-punch design will replace the notch in the 2022 iPhones. The notch has been a design that many have criticized ever since it was first introduced.
While many have gotten used to it so far, it is still a bit of an eyesore for some. However, the alternative would be that companies like Apple need to figure out a way to stuff the front-facing camera underneath the display. While this isn’t an issue as we’ve seen ZTE have done, there is the question of how much it can affect the camera’s quality when placed under the display.
Given how Apple has never been one to quickly hop on board new trends, it could be a while before we see a completely notchless iPhone. A report from last year suggested that the notch will not be going away anytime soon, and this new report seems to corroborate that.
