For a while now, Twitter has been trying to find ways to monetize itself, and it seems that they might have figured out how with a new paid feature called Super Followers. With this new feature, Twitter users can charge their followers a fee in which it would give them access to additional content, like tweets, photos, videos and more.
If this sounds like something you’ve seen before, it’s because you have. This is something that Google has implemented with YouTube where users can subscribe to a channel and pay a fee to “join” that channel to unlock additional perks, whether it be BTS footage, an exclusive first look, Q&A to creators, and more.
According to Twitter, they see this new feature as a way for creators and publishers to make money off their followers, and presumably Twitter will be getting a cut from these proceeds as well. This model isn’t exactly new and in the past, we have seen how some creators have turned to other platforms like Patreon in order to earn money from their fans and followers.
At the moment, there is no word on when Twitter will be launching this Super Followers feature or how much of a cut they will take, but Twitter has hinted at subscriptions in the past so this doesn’t really come as much of a surprise.
