This is actually rather interesting because for those who are unfamiliar, TSMC is the company that currently supplies Apple with their A-series chipsets found in the iPhone and iPad. As to why Apple chose TSMC over other display makers like Samsung or LG, a source told the publication that this is because TSMC’s expertise in “making things ultra-small and good” is what appealed to the Cupertino company.
Apple is also said to have hired a bunch of panel experts from various other companies such as AU Optoelectronics based in Taiwan, as well as experts from Japan. It is unclear how the final result will look like, but right now there are rumors claiming that Apple is actually expected to debut their own VR headset first, possibly in 2022, before they launch their AR glasses.
The VR headset is meant to help court developers into creating applications for mixed reality platforms and isn’t really intended to be a mainstream product.
