As discovered by the folks at Zatz Not Funny, they found a listing on Best Buy for the second-gen Ring WiFi Video Doorbell Pro. The listing has since been removed, but based on the screen grabs that they managed to take before it was taken down, one of the upgrades of the new doorbell would be a bump from 1080p video to 1536p video.
Video resolution isn’t the only thing that’s being given an upgrade. Ring will also be making some changes to the field of view of the video, where it will offer “expanded Head to Toe View” which will make it easier for users to see who’s at the door and if there might be a package sitting on your doorstep that would have otherwise not been shown.
At the moment, Ring competitor Arlo offers up 1536p resolution for its Essential Video Doorbell, so it is possible that this has been designed to better compete against that. There is no word on availability yet, but the listing does state the 31st of March in terms of release, so either that’s a placeholder or we might not have to wait too long for an official announcement.
