So what happens if you need to disable Activation Lock? This usually requires that you make a phone call or send an email to Apple to initiate the process, which can be a bit tedious, but a post on Reddit has revealed that Apple has since launched an online portal in which users can submit a request to have Activation Lock removed from their phones.
This sounds like it might be a bad idea and thieves could use it to their advantage, but obviously users will need to provide details that proves that they do own the phone, such as a purchase date, purchase location, and a photo or screenshot of the receipt. The process is more or less similar to the previous process, except that now you can submit your request online instead of having to call someone or send an email.
Apple does note that requests that are successfully granted will result in your phone’s data being erased, so you should make sure that your data is backed up first before proceeding.
