Ever since the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie, there have been several attempts at trying to bring it to the screen again and in other formats besides the games. This included animated series, live-action television series, comic books, novels, and more, although a lot of them seemed to fall short and didn’t last very long.
However, could 2021 break the mould? The trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie has recently been released and boy, does it look pretty awesome. Right out of the gate, the trailer promises a movie that will offer up the same degree of action and violence that fans of the game have come to expect.
Given that the movie is produced by James Wan, best known for the Saw movie franchise, it’s not surprising. We’re not sure what the exact plot of the movie is, but it will introduce new characters such as Cole Young played by Lewis Tan. It will, obviously, feature classic Mortal Kombat characters such as Sonya Blade, Jax, Liu Kang, Raiden, Shang Tsung, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion, just to name a few.
The movie is currently set for a release on the 16th of April where it will be released in theaters as well as being made available exclusively to HBO Max subscribers for one month.
