According to the Redditor, she claims that in March 2020, her car was broken into and her (then) brand new iPhone 11 was stolen amongst other things. However, she had the sense to mark the phone as being lost in the Find My app. Fast forward almost a year later, she got an email that alerted her that the phone had been turned on.
Obviously it wouldn’t be a good idea to track down the potential thief alone, so she called the police who sent someone over to verify and pick up her phone. “I called the local police, explained the situation and gave them my police report number. An awesome Deputy drove to the location immediately and in under an hour, he’s got it in custody, and I can go pick it up!”
We can only assume that she has since gotten a new phone, but it’s good that she managed to recover her stolen one. Apple has systems in place that allow users to remotely lock and brick their devices in the event that they are stolen to discourage thieves, but we suppose some people will still try anyway.
