A subsequent report suggested that the feature could arrive by the end of 2020, but that obviously did not happen. The good news is that we might not have to wait much longer because according to reports, the upcoming iOS 14.5 update will change that and will finally enable 5G dual SIM support on the iPhone 12.

The iPhone 12 is currently the only device Apple has in its entire product catalogue that supports 5G. It did seem odd that dual SIM support for 5G was not available at the start, but thankfully it appears that all it needed was a software update instead of a hardware one, in which we imagine quite a number of iPhone users might feel a little “cheated”.
Apple’s current implementation of dual SIM comes in the form of one physical SIM card slot and another eSIM which is software based. iOS 14.5 has yet to be released but we expect that it should be available in the near future, so keep an eye out for it if 5G dual SIM support is something you have been waiting for.
