This is according to investment research firm EqualOcean who cites research firm Omdia who believes that Apple could launch their foldable iPhone in 2023. The report claims that the foldable iPhone will feature a 7.3-inch to 7.6-inch display and also support for the Apple Pencil. This means that the form factor Apple will be going for will be a smartphone-tablet hybrid.
This seems to contradict an earlier rumor by Jon Prosser of FrontPageTech who claimed that Apple would most likely be going with the clamshell design. However, in all fairness, Prosser did state that the clamshell design was a design that Apple seems to be favoring right now, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it is a done deal. It is still possible that if Apple were to ever make a foldable iPhone, it could come in a smartphone-tablet hybrid form factor.
The inclusion of Apple Pencil support is also interesting as many have been calling on Apple to include such support for the iPhone for a while now. Either way, 2023 is still a couple of years away so anything could change between now and then.
