The publication claims that based on their information, there is no indication that Apple could be getting its supply chain ready for a 2023 launch. It also notes that Apple is keeping a close eye on the profitability of foldable phones and is looking at its competitor, Samsung, who in 2020 only managed to sell 2.5 million units, falling short of its goal of 4.5-5 million units.
Like we said in our previous posts, foldable phones have yet to fully become mainstream. A big part of the reason is due to pricing where they are typically priced way above most flagship phones. This means that even if consumers can see the potential and benefits of a foldable phone, it might simply be too expensive for them to adopt.
In any case, only time will tell if Apple’s foldable plans will eventually come true, but it could also hinge on the success that others, like Samsung, will have with their own foldable devices.
