Now according to a recent tweet, it seems that the hackers have since managed to auction off the code. According to a message left by the hackers, they received an offer that satisfied them. The code was initially offered at a starting bid of $1 million, although apparently there was an interested party who was willing to offer $7 million. They also said that the code was sold under the conditions of no further distribution.

Obviously we have no idea who was willing to pay that much for the game’s codes, but the Twitter comments mostly seem to suggest that CD Projekt themselves might be the ones who bought it back. After all the time and resources they spent developing the game, we’re sure that they wouldn’t want someone else getting their hands on such valuable information.
The company had previously stated in their tweet that they would not give into the demands of the hackers, and perhaps that’s true, but at the same time, $7 million seems like a small price to pay for what could amount to even bigger losses in the future.
